Still Lifes - Holly
For this page of my art website
I chose to show two still lifes of vases of Holly. One realistic, one expressionistic but both convincing displays of Holly on Wood, a wood table, that is.

Vase of Holly on Wood 2014 22 x 28 inches color pencil on lady-white paper $300
Vase of Holly 2014 oil pastel 28 x 22 inches $300
After having gone outside and clipping Holly branches from a Holly tree, I brought them inside and put them in a spacious glass vase on the wood dining room table of my family's house. I convincingly show the viewer two different stylistically drawn versions of the happeningly, heavenly Holly in an absolute "joie de vivre" kind of way, that 2014 December, Christmas season. The horizontal drawing above left is drawn with color pencils in a crisp, precise realism: you can experience the sharp, thorny green leaves clearly in a variety of shades of green and the bright red berries too. For the second vertical drawing above right, with the inspiration of the expressionists, whether Matisse or the German Expressionists, I boldy show the viewer the weight but also physical wonder of a variety of green Holly leaves in different sizes and shapes. You, the viewer can hopefully feel the fabulous greenery and red berries of Holly branches that come alive in my Christmas season creations!
