Still Lifes - Fall Leaves
For this folder, page I have chosen a group of my best Fall Leaf drawings and paintings for my viewing audience. They are all drawn or painted from life except the two mostly abstract chalk pastel drawings influenced by a contemporary abstract artist from Ireland, Sean Scully, whose paintings I once guarded as a Museum Guard at The Phillips Collection in Washington, DC.

Fall Leaves 2003 oil 14 x 48 inches $350
For this wide panoramic painting I painted a plethora of colorful Fall Leaves I imagined on a wide open grass-like area. A few of the leaves extend over the edges of the canvas seemingly beyond the picture's limits. These free-floating Fall leaves imitate in my own way, like Jackson Pollocks drip paintings, images that could go on beyond the picture-plane forever.

Two Maple Fall Leaves(after Scully) 2005 chalk pastel 28 x 36 inches $300

Four Fall Golden Leaves(after Scully) 2005 chalk pastel 28 x 36 inches $350
For these two Fall Leaves' chalk pastels I found inspiration when creating them both by a contemporary abstract artist I once guarded as a museum guard at The Phillips Collection in Washington, DC named Sean Scully and another artist I guarded there: Georgia O'Keeffe. By boldly "blocking" and building in the background with solid chalk pastel blacks and grays underneath either large or small Fall golden or maple leaves I allow the viewer to see two things achieved. First, that by drawing concrete, lively leaves of Fall over abstract shapes I show boldly the marriage of tremendous tree leaves with abstract shifting shapes. In other words, the marriage of the physical with the spiritual. Second, having done this, I thank God for having been born into a seasonal-satisfying season: Autumn and I hope my viewer appreciates both reasons for rendering awesome art.

Fall Leaves(after O'Keeffe) 2006 acrylic 18 x 14 inches $300
This lively leaf painting was inspired by a Georgia O'Keeffe still life of Leaves that I had the fond memory of once guarding at The Phillips Collection as well.
