Virginia

For this page of my art website I chose to show a group of paintings based on photographs I took of Virginia over the years. Two of them are in Arlington, Va photographed from Georgetown in Washington, DC, one's in Alexandria, Va, and one's in Great Falls, Va.
I hope the viewer can appreciate a variety of scenery both during the day and at night in Virginia.

Woods in Great Falls, VA 2007 chalk pastel 28 x 22 inches $300

Boats in Potomac River Harbor behind the Torpedo Factory, Alexandria, VA 2007 oil 34 x 16 inches $400
For this nautical harbor scene in Alexandria, VA, I aimed to show the viewer a group of boats docked in a harbor off the Potomac River behind The Torpedo Factory in afternoon clear blue sky daylight. The reflections in the water reflect this pleasant scene well. One note: This painting was once accepted in a juried art show at City Hall in Alexandria, VA about 7 or 8 years ago.

Arlington, VA Skyline from 37th Street in NW, Washington, DC 2017 acrylic 20 x 16 inches $325
One early evening after having driven on this road coming back from my day office job not far away, I parked my car on this 37th Street in NW Washington, DC in the opposite direction. After getting out of my car I turned around and photographed this night scene and later painted it in my apartment studio. It holds special meaning to me because the grayish-black pyramid-like roofed building with a top red light in the right corner background is a building on the Georgetown University campus. I was born at Georgetown University hospital not far away where I also once had two solo art shows in one of their buildings also in the past.

View of Arlington,VA from a side street's side walk near Georgetown University 2017 acrylic 16 x 20 inches $325

The Blue Ridge Mountains, VA(after a photograph) 2020 color pencil 22 x 28 inches $300

Early Evening Lights on the Potomac River behind the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA 2011 ink and color pencil 22 x 28 inches $325
After having photographed this night scene in Alexandria, VA, I later drew it in mixed media of black, gray, and white ink and washes for the sky, trees, rocks, and water and drew the distant dock and mini-building with both ink and orange, yellows, and whites via color pencils for the lights. Again, this drawing like the above boat painting was accepted once in a juried art show at the City Hall in Alexandria, VA. One note: again this picture was behind the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA and where I've been a member of The Art League Gallery since 2001 and still am.

King Street in Alexandria, VA under the moon and Christmas Lights 2014 color pencil 20 x 16 inches $275

James Madison's House at Mount Pelier, VA 2019 oil on canvas board 18 x 36 inches $475
Having once visited this large pink house in Mount Pelier, Virginia, I then photographed it in the early 2000's before finishing it in oil paint in 2019. It's pink facade was painted within the last two decades, different from it's original color. It's the house where the 4th President of the United States, James Madison at one time used to live in Mount Pelier, Virginia and with its pretty in pink colored facade made an attractive historical house to visit on a sunny, September day in the early 2000's in the great state of Virginia!
